Public speaking is speaking in public. Okay, that's the lamest and the most unintellectual explanation I'd ever heard. Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. (source:wikipedia).
I was a public speaker during my secondary school and I'd been trained to speak in public since i was in primary school. But, I stopped involving in those activities during my matriculation and it continued till my university day due to a reason 'i want to focus on my study.' It was the stupidest excuse, i know, but that's the mistake I'd made. Due to that, i have difficulty in speaking and representing myself well in front of people for these past years.
Luckily (yes, i feel so lucky), to have a Public Speaking class conducted by Mr. Hisham and Miss Hanani. Both are energetic and confidence. There's no time to feel sleepy and boring, every seconds was awesome *exaggerating is allowed here because it's true.keke* First, i felt amazed with Mr Hisham's ability to make a hypothesis about others' personality just by having short conversation with the participants. Second, the class itself is very beneficial to me. It taught me how to be a good public speaker. These are the tips i got from the class:
- Be confident and choose interesting and familiar subjects to reduce the nervousness.
- Use appropriate words, volume, and emphasize on the words that need to be emphasized. Avoid using monotonous tone because it will make your audience feel boring.
- Speak in an acceptable rate, not too slow and not too fast with a good pronunciation *so you need to read, listen to the materials that will help you, and practice.*
- Never afraid to speak and make mistake. Mistake will happen at first, but you will learn and do things the right way.
- Practice, practice,practice,and practice ^^
